Kids Now Youth Advisory Council

 New Youth Advisory Council

Our new youth-designed and youth-led Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has been created to invite our program graduates to re-engage with Kids Now and further develop their leadership & life-success skills as they work to help empower more youth through the Kids Now program.

The pilot program was launched in December 2012, and a group of alumni who are now in high school or beyond have been meeting monthly, munching on Pizza sponsored by Boston Pizza, and brainstorming lots of great new program ideas. The YAC has provided advice on the current Kids Now program, as well as new program development.

A key new project that has been youth-led and youth designed by the YAC is our new “Positive Me” youth empowerment event.

Positive Me new youth-led project

We gave the YAC this special challenge: Develop new ways for our current Kids Now participants to take action with the skills they are learning in their program, and do something positive for their family, their friends or their community.

After some fun and lively discussions, the group came up with an in-class video contest, called Positive Me that is being pilot-tested in April’13.

 Other Projects

The YAC is also creating a series of blogs for our current Kids Now program participants and recent alumni, sharing their own Kids Now experience, and highlighting how Kids Now helped to ease their transition into high school.

The group has also been exploring other ways for program alumni to re-engage with Kids Now and reinforce the 5 essential life-success skills they learned during their program.
