kids.now is growing again! We are currently hiring for the following two positions: Director of Development and Program Manager in Saint John, NB.

Director of Development

kids.now is Canada’s national charity for youth leadership. For close to a decade, we’ve been inspiring leadership, building self-esteem, and coaching kids to make positive choices through our free, in-school, afterschool programs for kids in grades 7 and 8. Led by volunteer coach-mentors, our program features a well-researched, educator-endorsed curriculum that includes thought-provoking games, activities and group discussions that teach goal setting, effective communication, conflict resolution, stress management, and other valuable skills that last a lifetime.

kids.now has an immediate need for a Director of Development to identify, develop and manage fundraising and development activities, build relationships with major funders, and plan for growth.

Position Summary

The Director of Development is responsible for the growth and maintenance of cash and in-kind contributions; relationship building with key sponsors and donors; and the maintenance of appropriate systems related to fund development, including but not limited to sponsor and donor management, research and cultivation, donation processing and recognition.The position reports to the President and serves as a member of the senior management team. This position participates with the Board of Directors, President, and Director of Communications in charting the direction of kids.now, assuring its accountability to all stakeholders, and ensuring its effective operation. The position has primary working relationships with the President, Director of Communications, and existing donors and sponsors.
 

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement annual development plan and strategy 
  • Research, cultivate and approach donor prospects and identify new revenue streams from all sectors, including corporate, foundations, individual donors, and government
  • Identify, develop and pitch prospects for sponsorship and third-party fundraising opportunities that will support kids.now marketing-communications activities
  • Prepare, write and manage annual corporate, private foundation and special project grant applications 
  • Develop and maintain annual revenue budget 
  • Draft year-end reports to foundations, corporate sponsors and donors, and prepare updates to the Board of Directors
  • Lead other staff, Board and committee members to support fundraising efforts
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate & foundation sponsors 
Qualifications
  • 10+ years demonstrated fundraising and/or development experience in a senior management role, and proven success in targeting funding opportunities at corporate, private and government levels
  • High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new funding opportunities
  • Superior communication skills; ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and sponsors and effectively liaise with a diverse range of contacts in a professional manner
  • Excellent proposal writing and editing skills; demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively, and successful track record in obtaining funding
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports.
  • Innovative and motivated self starter; high degree of initiative required
  • Experience with social media fundraising campaigns is a definite asset
  • Solid understanding of the relationship between fundraising and marketing, public relations, communications, and social media is required
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector is an asset

Program Manager - Saint John, NB

Then a position as a kids.now Program Manager is right for you!

kids.now is Canada’s national charity for youth development. For over a decade, we’ve been coaching kids to make positive choices by building self-confidence, leadership abilities, and life-success skills through free, in-school, afterschool programs for kids in grades 7 and 8. Led by fully trained, volunteer coach-mentors, the educator-endorsed kids.now program focuses on goal setting, effective communications, and other valuable skills that last a lifetime.

A kids.now Program Manager is responsible for the recruitment, screening and training of qualified volunteer coach-mentors to deliver the kids.now program, and for building relationships with schools and key influencers throughout your community. The Program Manager will maintain up-to- date information in the kids.now database and take initiative in recommending refinements to the database that will increase our efficiency and customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the recruitment, screening and training of program volunteers (job descriptions will be provided)

  • Develop and manage relationships with schools and school contacts to initiate and continue programs

  •  Develop and manage relationships with other key contacts in education and youth fields

  • Develop and manage school contacts and the relationships with our volunteer coaches

  • Maintain contact database

  • Coordinate Volunteer appreciation events

 Requirements:

  • Knowledge and appreciation of the volunteer community
  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Computer literacy skills and ability to operate Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with Salesforce database an asset

  • Ability to work independently on a day-to-day basis in a not-for-profit/online team environment

  • Customer service skills is an asset

Location and Travel:

Candidate will work from own home office, with the need for limited travel
