Kids Now is affiliating with international experts in child and adolescent development, Dr. Dona Matthews and Dr. Joanne Foster, to provide you with ideas for successfully mentoring and raising youth.

Matthews and Foster have some of the greatest secrets we’ve ever heard. Their new book, Beyond Intelligence: Secrets for Raising Happily Productive Kids (July 2014) is about supporting and encouraging children’s development. It’s full of practical strategies so parents can help children become strong, confident, and successful. You can visit their website at www.beyondintelligence.net

Below are some of the secrets we will be sharing in upcoming programs and workshops:

1. DEVELOPING SELF-CONFIDENCE

Nurture children’s social and emotional intelligence. Model good coping skills, a positive attitude, and persistence.

2. GOAL-SETTING

Goals should be specific and manageable. Help children learn to plan, prioritize, and set goals that are reasonable and reachable.

3. COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING

Create a language rich home environment—talk and listen. Remember that getting along with others involves sharing, taking turns, listening, and acting kindly.

4. CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Teach children how to think through issues and possible responses to others’ comments and behaviour—before reacting.

 5. STRESS MANAGEMENT

Create a healthy balanced lifestyle within the family, with time for learning, reflection, play, exercise, and relaxation, as well as time for one another.
